About Nankai University
Nankai University (NKU) is one of the top public research universities in Tianjin, China, founded in 1919.
Its most highly rated programmes include mathematics, chemistry, history and business/economics. It has around 24,000 students over 22 colleges on three campuses covering 456 hectares. This includes an International Students Office for nearly 2,000 international students.
With nearly 100 years of history, the original campus in Balitai, the Nankai district of Tianjin houses 10 colleges in various disciplines: the business school, the school of economics, the school of literature, the college of chemistry, the school of mathematical sciences, the institute of physics, the college of foreign languages, the college of life sciences and the institute of Japan studies.
The new Jinnan campus in the Golden Corridor of the Binhai New Area opened in 2015, focusing on emerging, cross and applied disciplines.
The TEDA campus in TEDA (Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area) in the Binhai New Area of Tianjin aims to push industry involvement in education at Nankai University, and includes the TEDA Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology and the TEDA Institute of Applied Physics.
The university facilities include 3D-printing services, an olympic-size swimming pool, and kung fu and tai chi clubs.
NKU’s alumni include the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China Zhou Enlai and Nobel Laureates Chen Ning Yang and Tsung-Dao Lee.
Tianjin is a large city of over 13 million people, 30 minutes from Beijing on a bullet train, with presence of companies including LG Samsung, Toyota and Coca-Cola.
