Each year the university holds its Innovision festival, which celebrates student achievement through competitions and displays. Industry professionals come to NIT annually to watch the festival and run workshops, which are attended by thousands of students from NIT Rourkela and around the country.
Students can take part in the university’s annual Sports Fiesta, an inter-college tournament. Competitions are held in a range of sports, from football to kabbadi – India’s ancient sport in which teams try to score points while holding their breath.
Rourkela is known as the Steel City, and is the site of India’s first public sector steel plant, established in 1954. It’s one of the largest cities in Odisha Province, a region famous for its myriad of temples.
