About PSG College of Technology
Established in 1926 by PSG & Sons Charities Trust, it began as the PSG Industrial Institute, based in Peelamedu, Coimbatore.
Then G. R Damodaran founded the PSG College of Technology on the institute’s campus in 1951. It was the first private engineering institution in Tamil Nadu and gained autonomous university status by the University of Madras in 1978.
Students can choose to study one of 48 full-time and part-time programmes in science, engineering and management, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There are 11 departments covering engineering, technology, computer applications, management sciences, basic sciences and humanities.
There are also three five-year integrated sandwich courses in engineering providing a combination of classroom teaching and training within the industry, which is one of very few in the country.
On-campus facilities include a football field, a hockey field, two basketball courts, a handball court, tennis courts, three volleyball courts, three badminton courts, two Sepaktaraw courts, two Tennikoit courts, a Kho-Kho court and three cricket pitches.
The PSG College of Technology has been publishing an engineering data handbook called “PSG Design Data Book” since 1960, which is used by engineers and students all over the country.
An international techno-management festival called Kriya has been held annually at PSG College of Technology since 2005. It also hosts Renaissance, an inter-collegiate cultural festival spread over two days. Another, of a similar ilk, is held in September too.
Notable alumni include Anand Chandrasekaran, a Facebook business executive.
