About University of California, Davis
Since the beginning, UC Davis has outgrown the expected. It’s a place where creativity connects ideas from the obvious to the outlandish. Where discovery pulls from every practice and profession. Where the most comprehensive solutions come from the most diverse minds. We were founded in 1908 to serve California. Today, we’re confronting the world’s most urgent challenges—especially those related to food, health, the environment and society.
Our 5,300-acre campus borders the city of Davis, a compact and vibrant college town. Sacramento is 20 minutes away, and world-famous destinations such as the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe and Napa Valley are within a two-hour drive.
UC Davis is the most inclusive campus in the University of California system, with four colleges and six professional schools that offer over a hundred majors and nearly a hundred graduate and professional degrees. UC Davis enrolls about 39,000 annually, including international students from more than 110 countries. In the 2021-22 fiscal year, the university joined the exclusive group of fewer than 20 public universities in the nation surpassing $1 billion in research funding. The university also contributes over $8 billion to the California economy each year.
Our geographic footprint goes well beyond the city of Davis. The UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento is among the nation’s Top 50 hospitals in 10 medical specialties from cardiology to cancer. We also operate an environmental research center on Lake Tahoe, a marine laboratory at Bodega Bay and an MBA program in the San Francisco Bay Area.
